They reproduce the brushstrokes and texture of the original, and are highly light- and water-resistant, ensuring a preservation period of over 100 years.
森鴎外、泉鏡花、芥川龍之介など多くの小説家が「分身」をテーマに表現しています。谷崎潤一郎は『刺青』で女郎蜘蛛の妖しい分身（文身）感を紡ぎました。天明屋は以前、龍の刺青（文身）を全身に入れた男性にこんな話を聞いたことがあると言います。刺青を入れる以前と以後では、体全体に全く異なる感覚が存在し、もう一つの存在を感じるようになったと。
